On Wednesday, 25 March, ETK Group hosted Beyond London, a B2B matchmaking and networking session to start off the Nigeria-British Chambers of Commerce (NBCC)’s annual Trade Mission to the United Kingdom.

For years, the annual trade mission has been an important platform dedicated to strengthening bilateral trade relations, promoting investment partnerships, and advancing economic cooperation and strengthening Nigeria UK bilateral trade partnerships.

Beyond London successfully set a forward-looking tone for NBCC Trade Mission activities for 2026, demonstrating the value of regional engagement, with focus on turning this high-level event into real economic outcomes.

Delivered in collaboration with Essex Chambers of Commerce, Greater Essex Business Board, Essex County Council, British Chambers of Commerce, and London Stansted Airport, the Beyond London Forum brought together policy makers, investors and business leaders from Nigeria to explore high-value trade and investment opportunities Greater Essex.

Beyond London received strong support from sponsors and partners. like the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC), the Greater Essex Business Board, Essex Chambers of Commerce & Industry’s Inward Investment Team, Freeport East, London Stansted Airport, Essex Growth Agency, British Chamber of Commerce, Sycamore Nigeria, Page Financials, Access Bank Plc, Zenith Carex Express, Essex County Council, Bank of Industry Limited, Zenith Bank Plc, and other regional stakeholders for making this event possible, reinforcing its international reach and engagement.

 

A Strategic Shift in Trade Engagement

Hosted at the Radisson Blu Hotel, London Stansted Airport, the event was intentionally positioned around the theme of creating business opportunities beyond traditional business hubs and unlocking regional UK trade opportunities beyond London.

Beyond London is significant as it follows President Bola Tinubu’s recent state visit to the United Kingdom and signals a move from Political engagement to commercial execution.

The team of the forum reflects a strategic shift towards regional economic opportunities across the UK, positioning Essex as an emerging hub for trade and investment and encouraging decentralised engagement beyond traditional London-focused business opportunities in line with evolving global trade dynamics, where growth is increasingly distributed across regional economies.

Driving Strategic Dialogue and Practical Outcomes

Beyond London featured a series of high-level presentations and discussions focused on delivering actionable insights and promoting meaningful partnerships between Nigeria and Essex.

ETK Group’s Managing Director, Bolaji Sofoluwe MBE and keynote speaker, Prince Abimbola Olashore, President the Nigerian British Chamber of Commerce, while speaking laid strong emphasis on the importance of Nigeria UK bilateral trade partnerships, with a strong focus on translating dialogue from the event into measurable business outcomes. while highlighting the importance of trade competitiveness, policy alignment, and institutional cooperation in supporting sustainable economic growth for Nigeria.

Participants also heard from Mark Hardaker of London Stansted Airport, who highlighted the airport’s strategic role in enabling trade connectivity, infrastructure development, and global market access for businesses.

Showcasing Investment Opportunities

Beyond London provided valuable insights into both UK regional strengths and Nigerian investment opportunities as highlighted in the presentation by Essex County Council on the county’s economic capabilities, sustainability initiatives, and readiness investment opportunities in Essex for international businesses

From Nigeria, the vast investment opportunities in Lagos State were presented by the Honourable Commissioner for Investment, Industry and Commerce, highlighting the current ease of doing business reforms in the country, infrastructure expansion and opportunities across technology, trade, and manufacturing.

Collaboration Through Targeted Business Matchmaking

A key feature of Beyond London was the well curated B2B matchmaking session which enabled participants to engage in sector-specific conversations and identify partnership opportunities.  The output from these sessions demonstrated strong engagement and clear potential for future partnerships for Nigeria and Essex businesses.

Strengthening Institutional Collaboration for Long-Term Impact

The B2B session concluded with remarks from the Commonwealth Secretariat, highlighting the importance of trade competitiveness, policy alignment, and institutional cooperation in supporting sustainable economic growth.

Beyond formal discussions, Beyond London facilitated meaningful business engagement between business leaders, policymakers, and investment stakeholders, reinforcing ETK and NBCC’s commitment to enabling connections that support long-term trade and investment outcomes.
